Advocacy for Dance in Education

As a team of 14 representative dance leaders/practitioners working alongside regional Arts Organisations, we developed a set of films to be showcased and shared from Government to Parents, that highlight the life-transforming nature of dance and its vital importance within the educational system.

These films were tailored towards audiences of; Young People, Parents, Headteachers and Governors, Government and Policy Makers with a goal to not only showcase the mental and physical well-being benefits that dance contributes to, but how dance can be utilised as a brilliant tool for our young people to thrive in their futures. This project was steered by Birmingham Royal Ballet, Dance Leaders Group, FABRIC Dance, Mercurial Dance and Orit Azaz.

Empowered to dance

In collaboration with One Dance UK, this film is tailored towards Government to recognise and support the vital importance of dance in the educational landscape to support and develop individuals to enable them to thrive in the future.

The future with dance

Another strand of the strategy group films showcases to Headteachers and Governors the power dance holds and the importance of its presence in a curriculum to bring back into schools.

Made for dance

Through the voice of youth and educational representatives, this film supports parents and carers by presenting an understanding towards their children's next steps into the dance world and support them accessing a career.

DLG STORIES

Hearing it from youth voices themselves is a form of empowerment and inspiration for others who may want to pursue dance in education or career. We have been speaking with a variety of dancers and dance leaders to share their inspirational stories.
